Challenges to Monetary and Fiscal Policy in Small Open Economies

Join us for the fifth annual high-level roundtable conference on central banking to be held virtually on April 14, 2021, from 8:00am to 10:00am Eastern Time. This event is organized by the MPA Program in Economic Policy Management, the Center on Global Economic Governance, and the Initiative on Central Banking and Financial Policy at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs.

The overall topic for this year's Roundtable will be "The fiscal-monetary policy mix in response to COVID challenges for EM economies, which will be addressed over two sessions chaired by Patricia Mosser, Jan Svejnar, and Guillermo Calvo. The first session will focus on the prospects and policies of Advanced Economie and their impact on Emerging Markets. The second session will address EM challenges in dealing with shocks stemming from AE, and their own structural weaknesses, including having currencies that do not qualify as Safe Assets.

Participation as observers will be by invitation only and will follow Chatham House Rule. Open only to Columbia SIPA students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
