Conference: Infrastructure Investment & Sustainable Development

Monday, October 16, 2017
9:00 am - 7:00 pm

Columbia University

By invitation only. Open to Columbia SIPA students. To request an invitation email the Center on Global Economic Governance or Cynthia Simon. RSVP required.

This high level symposium, taking place ahead of the World Bank Spring Meetings and German G20 Presidency, will provide investors and policymakers with the opportunity to reflect and share experience on strategies to spur positive impacts on both the environment and growth opportunities in emerging markets.

Climate finance and sustainable development goals in emerging countries are intertwined. Reaching SDG objectives in emerging countries through financial innovations increasingly requires a climate change component. A number of vehicles can achieve this dual objective. Public financial institutions and investors are rapidly mobilizing and joining forces to develop key development and financial strategies for climate change. Investors can leverage on climate change and SDGs objectives to spur growth, better their risk management framework, and enhance their stewardship activities.

Emerging markets that learn from and ride the climate finance wave can achieve greater sustainable development objectives and ultimately participate in both green infrastructure & sustainable agriculture as well as financial markets developments.
